The Shipwreck – Acts 27:1 - 28:10The Story in a nutshell Paul, now a prisoner of the Romans, is set to travel to Rome. He travels on several different ships toward Rome, but the weather becomes treacherous, and it is no longer safe to travel in the winter. Paul tells the captain of his current ship the dangers of continuing on, but the captain doesn’t listen. They continue on following the coastline, but a terrible storm comes up and blew them out to sea. For fourteen nights the ship and crew battled the storm, but to no avail. The ship was going to run aground and break up, and everyone will likely die, but Paul tells everyone not to worry. An angel of the Lord had spoken to him and told him that everyone would survive the coming shipwreck. When the ship wrecks, everyone survives and makes it to the island of Malta. The people of Malta are very friendly and build a fire to keep the survivors warm. Paul helps with the fire, but as he is placing sticks on the fire, a snake, driven out by the heat of the fire, bites him. Many think Paul will die – a fitting end for a prisoner that they imagined had committed bad crimes. But, Paul does not die, and the people then think that he is a god. Finally, Paul, the other prisoners, and the ships crew are taken in by an estate on the island where they are fed and housed. And while they are there, Paul prays for many sick people, lays hands on them, and they are healed. Do you remember the story? Can you answer the questions below?
