People try to Worship Paul – Acts 14:8-18

The Story in a nutshell

Paul and Barnabas did a lot of traveling.  While they were at Lystra, a city that was in what is now Turkey, they met a man with crippled feet – he had never walked.  As he was preaching, Paul noticed that the man had strong faith, so Paul called to the man, “Stand up!”  The man jumped up and started walking; he was healed.

When the crowd saw what happened, they became excited.  They shouted out that Paul and Barnabas were gods in human form and they brought flowers and bulls to sacrifice to them.  This was all wrong!

Paul and Barnabas tore their clothing in dismay and ran out among the people explaining that they were not gods.  They told the people that they had come to tell them about the Good News of the real God.  But even at that it was difficult to convince that people that they were not gods. Paul and Barnabas could hardly restrain the people from making the sacrifices.
