Paul Preaches in Athens – Acts 17:16-34

The Story in a nutshell

Paul is in Athens where he is waiting for Silas and Timothy to join him.  While Paul is waiting, he becomes very sad because of all the idols located about the city.  He gets into a number of debates with Jews, God-fearing gentiles, and philosophers.  He tells them about Jesus and his resurrection.  Many people think he is crazy; they think he is pushing a new strange foreign religion.  Paul is then taken before the Council of Philosophers where he addresses them.  “I noticed that you have many altars about the city, and one has an inscription – ‘To an Unknown God’.  I am here to tell you about him.”  Paul then tells them about Jesus and his resurrection.  Some laughed at what Paul said, but others believed and wanted to hear more.
