Jesus at the Wedding - John 2:1-11The Story in a Nutshell The Story continues… A wedding was taking place in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was a guest as was Jesus and his disciples. As the wedding was being celebrated the supply of wine ran out. This was a problem, so, Jesus’ mother spoke to Jesus about it. Jesus asked his mother, “How does that concern you and me? “My time has not yet come.” What did he mean? Despite his comment, Jesus' mother continued on. She told the servants, “Do whatever Jesus tells you to do.” Six large stone jugs were standing nearby. Each could hold 20 to 30 gallons. Jesus told the servants to fill the jugs with water. When they were filled to the top, Jesus said, take some out and give it to the master of ceremonies of the wedding. The master of ceremonies tasted the water, but it wasn’t water anymore, it was wine. How could that be? Where did the wine come from? The master of ceremonies didn’t know, but the servants did. The master of ceremonies was surprised. He called over the bridegroom and gave him a pat on the back. “Usually the best wine is served first. But you have saved the best wine until now.” And the celebration went on. This miraculous event at Cana was Jesus’ first display of his glory. His disciples were witnesses and they believed in him.
